High School Musical3 now holds the record for the BIGGEST opening for a musical in UK history, beating the previous record holder Mamma Mia! which opened on £6.5m.
Audiences packed the aisles for the first major cinema event in the phenomenal High School Musical franchise this weekend, but with most of the country only beginning the half term school holiday today, the best is still to come with many shows throughout the week already sold out. The film is currently playing on 494 screens and the opening weekend screen average was a staggering £12,000.

High School Musical arrived in the UK when the Disney Channel Original Movie premiered on the channel on 22 September 2006. Over a million viewers tuned in making it the highest rated movie on the channel ever. Since then High School Musical has gone from strength to strength to become a worldwide phenomenon.

The latest instalment is the first film to be made exclusively for the big cinema screen, and box office results show audiences can’t get enough of America’s favourite high school students.

The High School Musical 3: Senior Year soundtrack continued the record breaking phenomenon, selling 91,972 copies since its release on the 20th October making it the fastest selling soundtrack in UK history since the current chart system began in 1994.
