Comedy Lab, a unique televisual experiment which unearths the comedy stars of tomorrow, is now in its eleventh year and part of the Channel’s Generation Next season.
This established series has previously uncovered talent includes Peter Kay, Jimmy Carr, Mitchell & Webb, and Russell Brand. This year’s line-up showcases yet more potential comedy stars of the future.
Headwreckers: five comics from Dublin – David McSavage, James Goldsbury, John Colleary, Eleanor Tiernan and Declan Rooney – write and perform their show set in their writing room. It is here that the frenzied, manic and sometimes upsetting arguments and disputes form the backbone of the show that can influence the sketches as they unfold.

Pappy’s Fun Club – part sketch show part sitcom set in a ‘fun club’ run by a mysterious and never seen-before benefactor Pappy. The show follows the exploits of four heroes as they struggle to keep the show going in the face of a dwindling budget, an energy crisis and a host of wayward characters. Filmed in front of a live audience, Matthew Crosby, Brendan Dodds, Ben Clark, Tomas Parry play not only themselves but the characters too, making Pappy’s Fun Club a fast-paced and unpredictable gang show. School of Comedy – adolescent comedic actors take on the world of adults in a unique comedy sketch show starring Will Poulter (Son of Rambow) and Jack Harries plus a host of rising stars. School of Comedy features a range of characters from a filthy, profane receptionist, a cross-dressing Eastern European plumber, a sexually repressed couple from the 1930s, and an emotionally inadequate mo-fo policeman. Slaterwood –The Hollywood hills are alive with the sound of Bolton in this hilariously warped vision of comic talent Peter Slater (Phoenix Nights). This sketch show – written and performed by Peter – unleashes a world of crazy cops, heroes, villains, and assorted weird, wonderful and plain silly comic creations. Slaterwood also features a talented supporting cast of Emily Aston, James Britton, Alison Burrows, Lee Fenwick and David Rees-Talbot. Mr & Mrs Fandango - is a character sketch show featuring Barunka O’Shaughnessy (Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show, Bo’ in the USA) and Tom Meeten (The Mighty Boosh, Star Stories). The comic duo transport viewers to a world where Dodi and Di host their own daytime TV programme, Coleen and Wayne are comic-book heroes, Adam and Eve star in a 1970s sitcom, and Ant and Dec are co-joined twins. Olivia Lee’s Naughty Bits – Olivia Lee (Balls of Steel) is a sexy single girl about town looking for love, labels and men. Be amazed as she acts out a series of outrageous comedy dares and sketches inspired by Sex and the City characters.
