Poised for world domination, gangsta rap guru Snoop Doggy Dogg has set his sights on the big screen. |
The multiplatinum West Coast rapper is now in talks with New Line Cinema regarding Bones, a film which tells the story of a ghost who returns 20 years after his murder to eke out painful revenge on the men who killed him and ransacked his home town.
Snoop's agent turned him on to Bones, which remains in the developmental phase and will not hit theaters for well over a year, New Line Cinema spokesman Steve Elzer told JAMTV on Monday. The script is currently being written by Tim Metcalfe, who worked on the Brad Pitt film Kalifornia, and Adam Simon, who has worked extensively with B-movie director Roger Corman.
Though no contract is set in stone, Snoop is expected to record music for the film as well, Elzer said.
"In '98, from here on out, there ain't no limits on what Snoop Dogg can do," the 25-year-old rapper said in a New Line Cinema press release.
Born Calvin Broadus in 1972, Snoop Doggy Dogg has made cameos in Caught Up, Ride and Half Baked. He recently made headlines by ditching Death Row Records for a deal with No Limit, which will release his third album, Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told, on Aug. 4.
That album will follow up the 1996 album Doggfather and Snoop's 1993 debut Doggystyle, which hurled the Long Beach, Calif., native into stardom with the Top 10 singles "What's My Name?" and "Gin & Juice."
"We expect that Snoop will be able to transfer his phenomenal musical success to this film," Elzer said. (Anni Layne)
