Joining the ranks of the Beastie Boys and Trent Reznor, Steve Miller is the latest musician to break away from a major label and do his own thing. | Displeased with the way Capitol Records and PolyGram handled Miller's 1993 release, Wide River, the singer has decided to go about selling records on his own.
Miller is currently working on new songs, some of which were written while working on Paul McCartney's Flaming Pie, as well as others recorded during Miller's concerts at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco earlier in the year. Miller, known for hits like "Jungle Love" and "Fly Like An Eagle," is also in the process of re-recording 26 of his biggest songs, which he may distribute through the Internet. He is also thinking of starting his own label because, as Miller stated in the Wall of Sound, "I'm just not interested in going through the record company bullshit. It's easier not to put out a record." When JAMTV called to get more information from Miller's manager, Scott Boorey, he had no comment regarding a new label. (AB)
