New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani has gone after some of society's most dangerous types in recent months, waging all-out war on sociopaths like jaywalkers, hot dog vendors and cab drivers. Well, it just might not be too long before he adds klezmer-leaning rock musicians to that list, given the tone of a new single by musical mischief-makers Hasidic New Wave. |
The loosely-aligned gaggle of avant-garde rockers has just issued a CD containing four separate versions of "Giuliani Uber Alles" -- based, of course, on the Dead Kennedys' giggle-inducing punk anthem "California Uber Alles." HNW stalwarts Frank London and Greg Wall are joined on the disc by members of agit-punk vets God is My Co-Pilot and a smattering of downtown scene troublemakers. We'd note that it has a great beat for dancing, but under Gotham's ever-tightening codes, we're not entirely sure that doing so is legal at this point. (David Sprague)
