The guessing game surrounding who's going to play at this spring's annual HFStival is almost over. While festival organizers at Washington, D.C.'s WHFS-99.1 won't disclose which bands will grace the main and second stages -- presumably at RFK Stadium -- on May 16, some of the major players are known.
The headliners for the radio show, in no specific order, will be Green Day, the Foo Fighters, Everclear and Scott Weiland. Other bands slated to play the main stage include Marcy Playground, Bad Religion and Crystal Method. Last summer, there were 12 main stage performers, so as many as five remain a mystery.
If the overwhelming commercial success of last summer's second-stage performers is any indication -- Third Eye Blind, Reel Big Fish and Squirrel Nut Zippers, among them -- expect '98 to be a big year for Semisonic, Fastball, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Tuscadero and Agents of Good Roots, all of whom will perform outside the stadium. Three other "second-tier" bands are expected to perform on that stage as well.
Last year's HFStival featured a reunited Blondie, who played a 30-minute set and then weren't seen or heard from again; Prodigy; Beck; Jamiroquai; Echo & the Bunnymen; the Verve Pipe and Local H, among others.
