Girl Groups were enormously popular in the late 1950s through the '60s, as R&B-inspired pop by the likes of the Supremes, the Ronettes and the Crystals topped the charts with songs that celebrated female desire. These groups faded in the mid-'60s, as British Invasion rock groups took over the popular consciousness, but their legacy lives on in countless, timeless pop hits.
