Spree, Death Cab for Xmas

New takes on holiday classics due in October

The Polyphonic Spree, Death Cab for Cutie, Lisa Loeb and Pedro the Lion are all contributing tracks to Maybe This Christmas Tree. Due October 5th, the Nettwerk label's follow-up to Maybe This Christmas (2002) and Maybe This Christmas Too? (2003) will feature "The Christmas Song," a new song by the Raveonettes amid contemporary holiday covers.

The Polyphonic Spree tackled John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)." "I would say our version stays pretty true to the original track in terms of arrangement," says frontman Tim DeLaughter. "The song is totally recognizable but with all the added layers, textures and voices of the Spree and then some . . . we invited a whole load of kids to come in and sing."

The Maybe This Christmas Tree track listing:

"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," the Polyphonic Spree
"The Christmas Song," the Raveonettes
"Jingle Bells," Lisa Loeb
"Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," Death Cab for Cutie
"I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," Pedro the Lion
TBD, Belasana
"Baby It's Cold Outside," Royal Crown Revue
"Christmas Time Is Here," Ivy
"Fairytale of New York," Pilate
"Christmas For Cowboys," Jars of Clay
