Garbage and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the first two acts to sign on for the Danish summer music festival Roskilde. The four-day event will take place in the town of the same name from June 27th to the 30th.
Two years ago, tragedy struck Roskilde, when nine concert-goers were trampled to death when the crowd rushed the stage during Pearl Jam's set. Organizers decided to continue the annual festival, and last year's show -- featuring Tool, Beck, the Deftones, Bob Dylan, Robbie Williams, Neil Young and PJ Harvey -- came off without incident. "Roskilde '02 will continue to allow space for [a] unique framework to operate, where free-spirited people and music lovers can meet and together extend the horizons of human and musical tolerance," reads a post on the festival's official site. "The aim will again be to provide a safe environment in which to support the continued development of youth and music cultures -- and to be prepared to accommodate them."
More artists for Roskilde 2002 are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
