Teeny-tiny jazz wizard Jamie Cullum is feeling particularly festive this year with plans to give away a prize a day throughout the Christmas period via his website Advent Cullumdar (see what they did there?). Each door hides a new prize in the run-up to Turkey Day and by December 25th Jamie will have offloaded £20,000 worth of gifts to fans across the globe. And it’s not just socks and bath salts on offer; his giveaways includes the likes of a Nintendo Wii, AC/DC and Silverstone tickets. Everybody’s favourite 90s ravers The Prodigy are back, back, back with a new album and tour set to explode into your eyes & ears in March next year. The new album, Invaders Must Die, is the first for nearly five years from Braintree’s finest and is described by somebody or other who absolutely knows as “40 minutes of having your head battered by future nostalgia, serotonin levels twisted by feel-good horrorcore and your synapses snapped by whiplash attitude”. We couldn’t have put it better ourselves. You’re going to have to wait until next year to purchase (or somehow download) a copy - not that we would suggest such a thing, so stop it. Kanye: "I made this record for me, not the fans..."

“People say I’m a black rapper and I shouldn’t be selling out 50,000-seater stadiums or singing on my records. I say fuck you! I can do what I want. This is my path.” Kanye West was in no mood to mince his words this week when RealMusic Blog met up with him at an exclusive playback of his new album 808s & Heartbreak amid a sea of red heart-shaped balloons, sparkly lights and beef skewers at London’s O2 Arena. Dressed in a grey shirt and jacket with trademark white plastic glasses hanging from his chest pocket, Kanye took his place on the DJ stand, introducing his record as “a piece of art” before solemnly sitting down and silenting thrashing along to every track in front of the assembled crowd of journalists. To say it was surreal would be to tell the truth…

It's Just A Matter Of What's On

In the climate of club closures throughout London (first Turnmills, then The Cross/Key and in two months The End), it was refreshing to see one actually open six weeks ago. Matter has shown all the pulling power of a randy Russell Brand in attracting not only sell-out crowds but also some of the biggest acts in dance music. French can-do-no-wrong duo Justice played two weeks ago and up & coming big-room bass-pumpers Japanese Popstars wowed revellers this weekend. The rest of November promises bigger and better things…
