After months of will-he-won’t-he speculation it was finally confirmed this week that Bruce Springsteen will be the Saturday night headliner at this year’s Glastonbury festival. The Boss will be filling the slot occupied so controversially last year by Jay-Z, returning the showpiece spot to its Glastonbury rock roots with his own brand of blue-collar rawk. Following on the ‘dad rock’ theme, other rumoured headliners include the evergreen Neil Young and the newly reformed Brit-pop outfit Blur…
We reckon that sounds like a stellar roll call and it’s sure to stand tall alongside the usual all-encompassing line-up of acts on the myriad stages around the huge site. Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis commented: “I’m so pleased that Bruce Springsteen has agreed to come to Worthy Farm for the first time. He’s one of the all-time rock legends and I’m confident that this will be one of our best shows ever. He’s also a Barack Obama supporter, which makes two headliners in a row who’ve backed the new President.”
Michael’s daughter Emily Eavis added: “I’m knocked out that we’ve managed to get Bruce to play. It’s the icing on the cake of this year’s bill, which I’m sure will take everyone’s breath away when we announce the full details.” This is sure to include all the key bands and artists from the year and some old favourites. Already ticked to play are Franz Ferdinand, The Ting Tings, Doves and Brit Award Winner Florence And The Machine.
Tickets for this year’s festival have now sold out. A very limited number of cancelled tickets will go on sale at 9am on April 5th. For more: www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk
