Country, soul and gospel - there are many strings to Candi Staton’s bow and the first lady of Southern Soul is back with new album Who’s Hurting Now, set for release on February 9. The long-player follows up a slew of gospel albums from the legendary singer who’s most famed for her 1976 hit Young Hearts Run Free as well as You Got The Love, her collaboration with The Source. Staton is also touring the UK in February and March, giving you a chance to catch one of the great soul legends in your own backyard…
Like her 2004 album His Hands, Who’s Hurting Now was recorded with Mark Nevers (Lambchop, Silver Jews, Will Oldham) at his home studio in Nashville. Candi brought along a couple of veterans to the sessions (a guitarist from Cameo and Mose Davis from Detroit funk legends The Fabulous Counts), as well as some of her own songs. The rest of the set takes in country and soul while also incorporating some new tracks, including Get Your Hands Dirty, specially written for Candi by Will Oldham who also penned the title track of His Hands.
