U2 Return With New Album

Fresh from welcoming Barack to office, Bono is back to the day job with new album No Line On The Horizon due to hit the virtual shelves on March 2nd.  This will be U2’s first release in five years following on from How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, the longest break in their illustrious career. Trundling into view a couple of weeks before the album release will be the first single from the album Get On Your Boots, the subject of which we can only hazard a guess at. Perhaps Bono has suddenly become all protective of his wellies? Or perhaps he’s a bit miffed at a popular national chemist? Or maybe he just can’t get his words out in the traditional order anymore - age catches up with us all you know…

Brit Nominations Announced

Nominations for 2009’s Brit Awards were announced at London’s Roundhouse last night, with Coldplay and Duffy heading up the list with four nominations each including going head-to-head in the Best Album and Best Single categories. They’re closely followed by Mercury Prize-winning Elbow, Adele and Scouting For Girls who are up for three gongs each and The Ting Tings, Radiohead, Girls Aloud and Estelle who each have two. Ferne Cotton fronted the launch party in Camden, with the ceremony proper taking place on February 18th at Earls Court, with Kylie, James Corden and Matthew Horne providing the links between gongs…

Obama's Musical Express

Today sees the inauguration of Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States of America. There’s a whole heap of issues to welcome him into office, what with the world cracking up and it being America’s fault and that, but for now it’s all about smiling for the cameras, making sure he’s moisturised and tuning in to some of the biggest and best musicians in the world. When Tony Blair swept into Downing Street back in 1997, he was accompanied by the dulcet tones of D:Ream’s Things Can Only Get Better - and that was it. In America they do things differently though and stars who have turned out to welcome Obama into office include Aretha Franklin, U2, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder and Shakira

Lily Allen - The Fear

RealMusic Blog first saw a fledging Lily Allen supporting the Scissor Sisters in 2005, where she forgot the words to her songs and stumbled around the stage grinning. After three years in the media spotlight Lily is a rougher and tougher specimen altogether and after a myriad of personal issues is now reportedly drug and alcohol-free. RealMusic Blog prefers our pop stars a bit blotto frankly, but we’re prepared to forgive Lily after hearing The Fear, which is as pure and clever a pop song as we could hope to hear. Can her upcoming album live up it? Here’s hoping…
