And so here we are with the circus cruising into town: “Roll up! Roll up!” for Guns N’ Roses latest, Chinese Democracy. No big thing you might think - until you consider it’s only taken ten years (give or take) for them to finally rock up with the goods. A superstar DJ in every sense of the word, Paul van Dyk has just finished another season in Ibiza and contributed new remixes to The Dark Knight soundtrack and new action game Mirror’s Edge. He’s currently working on new (secret!) projects for next year, a new album for 2010, runs his own label and is about to rock up in London for a show at matter in his ever-busy DJ calendar. In between all of that though, he managed to find time for a chat with RealMusic Blog to discuss why dance music is the great unifier, why Ibiza still rules, who you should look out for in 2009 and why Christmas day is his favourite 24 hours of the year…

RealMusic Blog remembers a time when artists could produce one album under one name that included both ballads and more uptempo dance numbers. Beyonce though feels this is now an error; and so, a week after Kanye told us he’d invented a new medium of music called pop art (purlease), Beyonce is here to tell us that she is at once Beyonce and also her alter-ego, Sasha Fierce - and she’s produced separate CDs to convey either persona. The first is all floaty clothes, minimal make-up, soft hair and ballads-a-go-go ; the latter prefers striking colours, jagged edges, lashings of hairspray and the sound of now. Trouble is, after a couple of listens we’re finding the two women remarkably similar. So will the real Beyonce please stand up?
