Top 100 DJs Of 2008

The end of another year is a list-maker’s wet dream as the top films, fashions and even derrières of 2008 must be decided. But in the end there can be only one - no not fantasy immortal highlander, but Disc Jockey at the summit of DJ Mag’s Top 100. Wednesday saw the culmination of the poll - regarded as the definitive award of the vinyl-spinning fraternity - voted for by over 350,000 dance-heads from 167 countries. Last year, Armin van Buuren was the Connor MacLeod of clubland, battling with his 12 inches all the way to numero uno. And thanks to the continued success of his radio show ‘A State of Trance’ and a seemingly endless string of global headlining slots, the Dutch law graduate retains his post as the best in the business for 2008…

Halloween Fright Fest!

Happy Halloween! If you’re American, you’re probably reading this while simultaneously dunking for apples and trick-or-treating with ET while dressed as a pumpkin. If you’re in Europe however, you may have bought a rubbish mask for less money than an egg sandwich but then left it on the bus on the way home. Nevermind. Whichever, there’s no better way to celebrate Halloween than by watching Michael Jackson’s Thriller video which is unsurpassed in execution, dance routines, budget and length to this day. Girls Aloud - Out Of Control

Is it just us, or are Girls Aloud - and Cheryl in particular - on the verge of becoming national treasures? Sexy yes, yes, yes, the reality TV queens are now onto their fifth studio album, with the press release informing us that Out Of Control is set to “take pop music to places it’s never been before…” RealMusic Blog raises one cautious eyebrow to that, but we have to admit that even before this album hit our ears, we had high hopes: Tangled Up production team Xenomania were at the helm and the Pet Shop Boys had chipped in a track.  Current pop svengalis + 80s pop kings = pop heaven, surely?

Pink - Funhouse

When most of us go through a break-up, we spend our evenings drinking bottles of Tesco Value wine and slurring words like ‘coulda’, ‘woulda’ and ’shoulda’. Not so Pink, who split up with hubbie Carey Hart in February after two years of marriage. Granted, she may have downed litres of vino - she jokes that France has called and asked for some wine back - but instead of moping she turned her grief into this, her fifth studio album. Enter Funhouse, a record pretty light on fun and not recorded in a house. We think. That Pink’s contrary isn’t she?
