This week’s videos hotfooting it to your puter have come all the way from America, so give them a welcome folks! Or just moan at your screen about the credit crunch being all their fault and how their president resembles a potato, that sort of thing. Both this week’s tasty treats come with a warning though, so be prepared - for magic is contained within… First up we have Billy Ray’s offspring Miley ditching her Mickey Mouse credentials for a spot of serious pop vixen behaviour, sporting magic hands. And then we have Mr Will.i.am, fitting in a solo outing in between his many producing engagements and he also has magic hands! RealMusic Blog’s hands are feeling a bit inadequate right now…

Miley Cyrus - “See You Again” - Out now

——————-

“I’ve got my sights set on you and I’m ready to aim,” trills Miley in her computerised-yet-somehow-still-nasal Tennessee drawl on the opening to her new single “See You Again”. It’s all a long way from her dad’s brand of country pop - no pleading about achey breaky hearts here. Instead, the 15 year old is rolling her hips around the stage like a seasoned pro, her years as Disney’s Hannah Montana standing her in good stead for her leap into pop stardom. Dressed all in white, Miley commands the stage amid a backdrop of bored-looking backing dancers and her band. The music is a bit Avril Lavigne, so hurrah - pop with attitude. And get this - a bit of the way through Miley gets all magical on us and begins to seep stardust from her left hand! Then the director, obviously digging the cosmic theme, begins to blur out the band and frame Miley’s performance with giant pink stars. It’s pyro-psychedelic, like acid’s been smeared right across the camera lens. RealMusic Blog thinks this is a promising start for young Miley, who’s already guaranteed superstardom, despite the Disney moms burning Hannah Montana dolls after she posed semi-naked for Vanity Fair. Courting controversy already - it took Britney years to develop that talent…

Will.i.am - “One More Chance” - Out now

——————-

—————–

This one starts off all Duran Duran’s “Save A Prayer”, before falling into a refrain of ‘girls, girls, girls’ (he likes them apparently) and then Lil Will raps the classics line “Girl we’ve been going back and forth like volleyball” - and we’re off. It’s all a bit Verve, with Will strutting down the street singing into camera. Only with this being Will and not Mr Ashcroft, and the US of A and not Wigan, it’s all sunny and primary colours with not a hint of rubbish to kick in sight. Then Mr I.Am starts to sing into his mobile (for he is mo-dern) while sat at a bus stop and sings things like “stickwitcha” followed by “la-la-laaaaaaaaa”. OK, something like that, stop being so pedantic. But then, halfway through the video and a little reminiscent of Miley’s video, Will gets some special powers whereby he can rearrange letters on signs (from ‘Lovely Umbrellas’ to ‘Love U’), pick up cars and paint murals on walls with nothing but his hands! First Miley gets stardust, then Will gets paint. In between all this he sings about wanting to “remix our love” and reiterates that fact that he’s “sear-i-us” - honestly, we’re not making this shit up. In the end Will does some dancing by a traffic light, begs his laydee to take him back in a whiney way and tries to move her with his special powers, but admirably refrains from trying to look up her skirt. She promptly puts him in her bag and that’s that. More videos next week!
