When Crowded House released their hit-packed album “Woodface” in 1991, lead singer Neil Finn’s son Liam was seven. Fast-forward 17 years to the present day, his dad’s band have split up and reformed and, as it turns out, baby Liam is now all grown-up, decidedly beardy and definitely following in his father’s footsteps. And while the hirsute one might look like a musical Captain Caveman, RealMusic Blog can confirm that he doesn’t just emit strangled yelps - rather, his sound encompasses dreamy, thoughtful, potent pop, shot through with fabulous melodies and harmonies…
Last month, RealMusic Blog brought you news of the fusion of a Stroke, a N.E.R.D and a perky pop starlet: Julian Casablancas, Pharrell Williams and Santogold. To celebrate the centennial of the Chuck Taylor shoe, Converse herded the trio into a studio to lay down a track and the result is a fresh slice of summer, with Pharrell squealing like Jacko, Casablancas coming through with his customary cool and Santogold showing exactly why she’s leading the pack of 80s impressionists right now…
RealMusic Blog loves a good nosey. And short of getting Madge to appear on an episode of MTV Cribs, this sneak-peek behind the scenes of the video for “Give It 2 Me” fulfils that criteria and then some. Whoop as the director picks his nose and pretends to not know what he’s doing; chuckle as Lady Madonna struts in stripes and big hats, grabbing megaphones and singing to camera in a sultry fashion; die laughing as she sits in front of whirring device that circulates air and claims it’s her No.1 fan. It’s all a bit like a mini version of “Tantrums and Tiaras”, minus Elton, the tantrums and the tiaras…

It may be more famed for its beer, coffee houses and being the greenest city in the US, but Portland is also home to The Gossip, the indie-punk band who stand firmly in the way of control and refuse to budge. The Gossip grabbed the UK’s imagination last year with their Ms Ditto’s glittering costumes, shimmering vocals and their pop-edged punk sound - so who better than guitarist Nathan Howdeshell to give you an insight into their home town of Portland?
