Primal Scream have always touted themselves as the ethos of rock’n'roll: back in the day they made upstarts like Oasis look tame with their supreme love of narcotics, wild party lifestyle and euphoric acid-tinged rock. Yet like the Happy Mondays they keep on trucking, spitting out album after album and generally defying all odds to still be alive and kicking. These days though, lead singer Bobby Gillespie is more likely to be spotted playing with his rock’n'roll-named kids (Wolf and Lux since you ask) than filling up on booze and brown - hell, his tanned new look has even landed him a modelling contract for Uniqlo. So with all this off-rock’n'roll-message behaviour, does the band’s latest album “Beautiful Future” satiate our rock’n'roll needs as only they can?
Cansei de Ser Sexy - CSS to their mates - have been larging it on the indie scene for five years now, spreading their brand of electro rock to the masses and getting plenty of love back in return. Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil, this film - part of Rhapsody Blog’s ‘Rock Star Guide To The Galaxy’ series - follows guitarist Luiza around her home town, which, teeming with 18m people she describes as being all about “traffic, eating and partying”. Far better than an episode of Wish You Were Here, Luiza truly gives you a taste of Sao Paulo as she takes you on a tour of the city’s museums, skate parks, shops, bars and finally to her granny’s house for a slap-up cod dinner. Turns out that it doesn’t matter where you are in the world, grannies across the globe own the same type of crockery…

As summer pummels well and truly on our door, it’s time for the annual Mercury Music Prize nominations where eclecticism rules OK. Filling up the Mercury bucket this year are indie stalwarts Radiohead and Elbow, scally wagsters The Last Shadow Puppets, DIY hero Laura Marling and pop darlings Estelle and Adele. RealMusic Blog is especially looking forward to the latter two squaring up at the ceremony after Estelle said of her chart rival: “Adele ain’t soul. She sounds like she heard some Aretha records once and she’s got a deeper voice - that don’t mean she’s soul.” More champagne for table two please…
There’s nothing RealMusic Blog loves to do more than rock - as Bryan Adams can attest, it seems like everywhere you go, the kids want to do nothing else. And no single artist makes us want to do it more than Kid Rock: the hair, the attitude, the bling - what’s not to like? “All Summer Long” is rocking radios across the UK and Europe, and to celebrate the fact that we still remember who he is - how could we forget? - the very kind Mr Rock has made his metallic chant-fest “Bawitdaba” free to download. One of his most infamous choons, “Bawitdaba” is a laid-back slab of southern rock/hip-hop, and leads happily into the fact that the Kid is releasing his new album “Rock N Roll Jesus” on Monday. We like to think that’s not the reason he’s being so generous though…
