The ‘Hidden Depths’ series kicked off last year, with shows curated by DJ Yoda, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and Warp Films, along with surprise guest appearances from the likes of gruff northerner Richard Hawley, turntablist Kid Koala and Pulp supremo Jarvis Cocker. Organisers tell RealMusic Blog that this year is going to be even better, with tons of special guests and appearances, but they’re keeping the full details a secret until the night of the do. So if you get a free ticket, it’ll be a complete surprise who’s performing, so best to prepare yourself in advance.
The five events kick off this Thursday in London at the Soho Revue Bar, with Wall of Sound’s founder Mark Jones taking charge, pulling in all his favours with old mates. The roadshow then heads north to Manchester where Belgian DJ duo The Glimmers pick up the curating baton, with rumours circulating of a legendary hip-hop pioneer making a special appearance on the decks. The shows then travel back to the capital where Secretsundaze act a touch of underground techno, house and disco, Chromeo bring their NYC electro-funk to the fore, and finally DJ and designer Fred Deakin fuses music and art into a slap-up audio-visual treat.
