Rising up from the streets of New York City, parallels have already been drawn between Lady GaGa and a young Madonna. She, of course, says she doesn't want to be the next Madonna, but rather the next Lady GaGa - would it be unkind of us to point out that she doesn't have to be the next Lady GaGa, but rather, just the one she currently is?
Whatever her identity though, there's no doubt that the flurry of hype surrounding this twentysomething has some validity behind it. Debut album The Fame is packed with cool tracks slashed with electro-pop beats, infused with the sound of now along with 80s cool that everybody seems to be chasing these days. Debut single Just Dance shows off exactly what Lady GaGa is about: in-yer-face pop with atttitude and the woman herself looks like she just stepped out of a Bowie video. When it comes to pop we don't want shy, retiring flowers and Lady GaGa fits that bill. A pop star who paints her face and says 'yah!' - Adam Ant would be proud.
