Newton Faulkner

Faulkner was another surprise hit of 2007, and his popularity shows no sign of slacking. Hailing from deepest Surrey is something to rail against, and that he has done, strumming up a storm with his geetar, accompanying it with some awesome vocals and all the while sporting dreads and a wispy beard without a hint of irony.
His success is no flash in the pan though. Word of mouth built up a following, and "Dream Catch Me" was the single that finally broke him, Radio One's Jo Whiley becoming enchanted and playing it over and over. Since then, the wannabe surfer dude has plucked his trade on stage with the likes of Paolo Nutini and Jack Johnson, and is now a Brit-nominated headline act in his own right.
Album "Hand Built By Robots" continues to nudge its way back up the charts, the buzz is still with him and his gorgeous cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop" is an absolute showstopper: audacious, but it works. Hand built in Surrey, and surprisingly none the worst for it.
