Album Review
Ui's 1996 debut album was a dual-bass attack that rocked precisely, and yet was also heavily touched by classic funk rhythms. Although very influenced by the rhythmic approach of early Gang of Four and Liquid Liquid, the band's own concoction was much more fluid and earthy. Check out the solid opener "August Song" or the more opaque "Painted Hill."
