Tony Christie

Music > Tony Christie

An old school crooner of the kind that will not come back, Tony Christie got his start in his native Northern England in the early 60's, performing with various backing bands. In 1969, he was signed to a solo deal by MCA and had what many perceive to be his classic period with hits such as "Is This the Way to Amarillo" and "I Did What I Did For Maria". Christie sold more than 10 million singles throughout the 70's. Slumping through the 80's like most of his peers, he bounced back in the 90's helped by Germany's notorious producer Jack White.
