The Yellowjackets

Music > Jazz > Pop-Jazz > The Yellowjackets

The crossover jazz outfit Yellowjackets formed in the year 1981. Consisting of Robben Ford (guitar; he was later replaced by altoist Marc Russo), Russell Ferrante (keyboards), Jimmy Haslip (bass) and William Kennedy (drums) the outfit offered smooth jazz numbers somewhat reminiscent of Spyro Gyra. Following their self-titled 1981 debut album The Yellowjackets released mostly well-received full-length offerings such as “Four Corners” (1987), “Run for Your Life” (1993; by then, Russo had in turn be replaced by Bob Mintzer) and “Peace Around: A Christmas Celebration” (2003).
