The Ronettes

The girl group The Ronettes formed in New York, USA when Veronica and Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley won a talent contest at the Apollo Theatre. Legend has it that years later, a manager mistook them for an act he had booked while they were queuing to get into a club and that they were signed after the crowd loved their impromptu performance. Their debut single "I Want A Boy" was released in 1961, but their big break came on meeting innovative producer Phil Spector, under whose guidance they recorded the classic "Be My Baby".
