The Gossip

Famous for eating roadkill, hanging out with Kate Moss and wearing spandex bodysuits, The Gossip's lead singer Beth Ditto is no shrinking violet. She's also flush with talent as the focal point of this punk-garage trio, her vocals infusing their catchy slices of angst and life with razor-sharp emotion and potency.
The Gossip originally formed in Washington in 1999 but switched drummers before settling on the threesome that would eventually bother the charts in 2006 with their third album Standing In The Way Of Control. Their identically named debut single became an anthem for the Skins generation, Yr Mangled Heart an anthem for the queer youth with Ditto as their loud and proud spokesperson.
To focus on all that Ditto herself brings is taking away from the music though, which is raw, edgy and bleedingly heartfelt. The Gossip write blistering, stripped down tracks layered with Ditto's smokin' vocals that pull you in so close you can smell the plastic scent of lipstick. RealMusic hopes for more in 2009.
