The Furious Five
The Furious Five were the backing band of Grandmaster Flash, who is rightly considered the "Godfather of Hip-Hop". Together they took the genre from its beginnings as a somewhat shallow, but fun party music into a world of almost infinite lyrical, technical and musical possibilities. Grandmaster Flash also defined most of the basic DJ-techniques. The outfit became a staple of the New York scene in the late seventies, but only started to record in the early eighties. Their albums “The Message” (1982) and “They Said It couldn’t Be Done” (1985) stand as hip-hop milestones.
