The Association was formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, CA, by music major Terry Kirkman and accomplished guitarist Jules Alexander. With the recording of the singles "Along Comes Mary" and "Cherish" the band topped the charts, though they remained somewhat obscure on the personal level with only a small fan base in spite of the popularity of the actual songs. Their polished recording style and use of session musicians instead of the original members hurt their credibility in a time when Woodstock was taking place and music was highly personal.
