Allmans Back on the Road

Ousted Dickey Betts tours, records on own

With their lengthy annual run at New York City's Beacon Theater come and gone, the Allman Brothers Band will get back to business as a travelling band. The Gregg Allman-led group set the first ten dates for a summer tour that will launch June 15th in Pelham, Alabama.

For the second year, the band will be without "brother" Dickey Betts, after dismissing the guitarist before their 2000 tour. Betts, meanwhile, has used the time to log hours with his new ensemble, the Dickey Betts Band, which did some recording earlier this year. Following a May 6th gig at the River Stages in Nashville, Betts and Co. will begin a sixteen-date tour as part of the Charlie Daniels Band Volunteer Jam, which will also include .38 Special.
