Steve Hackett was born in 1950 in London, UK. He started his career in music as a session guitarist, but joined the progressive rock outfit Genesis in 1971 after their original guitarist Anthony Phillips had departed. As of 1975 Hackett also recorded solo albums, and he left Genesis after their 1977 issue “Seconds Out” to go solo all the way. Although he never reached the commercial heights of Genesis his solo albums were well received and often earned critical praise not only for their musical prowess but also for their political content, obvious on releases such as “Defector” (1980).
