Steve Coleman
Steve Coleman was born in 1956 in Chicago, USA. He started his career in music by playing saxophone in a number of R&B outfits, but soon switched to jazz. After playing with Cecil Taylor’s big band Coleman became a steady force on the American jazz scene. His first band, the Five Elements, developed the M-Base concept (defined as “macro-basic array of spontaneous extemporization”) in 1985. Coleman, who also travelled a lot to learn about the music of other countries, has also been noted for his intricate musical theories. His album releases included the 1986 issue “On the Edge of Tomorrow”.
