Burgess found regional success in the 1950s with his brand of hard-driving Rockabilly. A terrific singer and guitarist, his voice had the same kind of raw, bluesy edge as Charlie Feathers. His guitar playing is a funky stew of Memphis Blues and unrefined country licks. He continues to record and his singing and playing are as vital as ever. His choice of material from writers like James Intveld and Tim Carroll is inspired.
