Snow Patrol

Snow Patrol are a band whose time has come. Whatever the magic ingredient that so very few momentous, career-changing albums possess, Final Straw is loaded with it. The calibre of the singles drawn from the third album by this Irish trio, notably "Run", "Chocolate" and "Spitting Games", has led to comparisons with Coldplay, but Snow Patrol's pop genius is of a different breed: think U2 covering Belle & Sebastian. Playing since 1998, this mild-mannered indie mob has taken the slow boat to slackersville, warmly shuffling and strumming through mid-tempo gems on Songs For Polar Bears (1997) and When It's All Over We Will Still Have To Clear Up (2001), before turning in that far darker but more persuasive third recording. Their next album is due out at the end of 2008.
