More of an attempt to out-perform anyone -including Sex Pistols impresario Malcom McLaren- in terms of marketing hype than a music act, Sigue Sigue Sputnik were the joke of the lame mid-80's period. Mostly remembered for their extravagant hair-do's, it was founder Tony James' aim from the get-go to impress the press with his sloganeering bravado and force EMI to sign him. It worked, if only for the second in which their first single "Love Missile F1-11" hit No. 3 in the UK charts. Despite more massive marketing, the momentum could not be kept.
