Sam Phillips
Born Leslie Phillips in Glendale California, Sam Phillips got her start in the 1980's singing back-up for Christian artists. She changed her stage name after parting ways with her label. She moved into more secular terrain as Sam Phillips recording the idiosyncratic album "The Indescribable Wow" with Brian Wilson's writer Van Dyke Parks and featuring a guest appearance by Elvis Costello. She took a turn on the silver screen opposite Bruce Willis in a "Die Hard" movie. After signing with Nonesuch Records she released the critically acclaimed "Fan Dance" album in 2001.
