Polygon Window
On the first wave of Intelligent dance music, Richard James rode in as Polygon Window. His unique approach to Techno, later explored as Aphex Twin, took electronic beat dynamics to new levels and complexities. While the sounds were clearly located somewhere between the kickdrum quakes of the dancefloor and the somnambulant wanderings of the chill room, Polygon Window's music was directed towards neither. His music merely pays respects to those spaces as he plunges into headphone listening territory, working with the ugliest analog synth squalks to create something beautiful while bending gentle, elegant keyboard falls into something odd and unfamiliar. These sounds were the beginnings of a signature sound that radically changed the direction of electronic music to come.
