Paul Butterfield

Janis Joplin is born on January 19th, 1943 in Port Arthur, Texas, USA. Since 1960 she performs in clubs and seriously starts a solo career in '68. Two of her records go gold, and since her gig at the Woodstock festival the maladjusted and socio critical Joplin is an idol of a whole generation. Although never to appear in the top ranges of the charts, her raspy voice and fiery onstage persona are admired by most. Ironic enough her song "Me and Bobby McGee" goes to number one once she is found dead on October 4th, 1970 in a Hollywood hotel.
