Singer-songwriter Pascal Obispo was born in the Bergerac region in the south west of France in 1965. Aged 13 he moved to Breton capital Rennes, where he found a flourishing music scene based around the annual Transmusicales festival.

In 1988 he formed his first group, Senzo. From this he went on to record a solo single, which earned him a deal with Sony offshoot, Epic. The lead track from his debut album, "Plus Que Tout Au Monde" (1992), included a radio hit and Obispo's career was launched. He thrived through the 1990s, taking in support slots with Céline Dion and sell-out tours across France, while producing three popular albums and the smash hit "Lucie" (1996), which sold 80,000 copies in a single month.

In addition to this he took on songwriting duties for fellow French stars including Patricia Kass, Johnny Hallyday and Florent Pagny, his efforts with the latter rewarded with No. 1 single "Savoir Aimer" (1997). He has since combined his music with raising AIDS awareness, culminating in recording the 2002 World Cup tune with Youssou N'Dour and the French football team, with all proceeds going to AIDS charities.
