One of the most violent manifestations of early Florida Death Metal, Obituary also tended toward a more elaborate orchestration of ultra-violent Thrash than the Death Metal bands that followed. John Tardy's vocals are corrosive and crusty; they scream with a rough urgency that matches Trevor Peres' grinding guitars. His chords cut like a rusty axe swung with great intent, if not precision. Obituary revels in blind, manic violence first and technical virtuosity second.
