New Kids on the Block

Only in their teens, all five members of New Kids on the Block faced the limelight early on after New Edition producer Maurice Starr had put them together. Labelled as the first boy group, the New Kids started out in 1984 and were stars by the end of the decade. Their hit album "Hangin' Tough" from 1988 sold eight million copies and huge single smashes including the title track and the kitschy ballad "I'll Be Loving You Forever". 1990's "Step by Step" did well, too, but the public started joking about the band, and in 1994 they split up.
