New Edition

After the Osmonds, but before Backstreet Boys, New Edition were the cute boy band who made Bubblegum pop for adolescent girls in the '80s. Ralph Tresvant's prepubescent vocals were as cotton-candy sweet as a young Michael Jackson's, and similar enough to make early listeners think they were hearing a recently unearthed Jackson 5 demo. By the '90s, they had grown tired of their image as teenybopper pinups, and acquired a more mature New Jack Swing style. The group finally dedicated themselves to solo projects, resulting in successful careers for Bell Biv Devoe, Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant.
