Mel Tillis
Country music singer/songwriter Mel Tillis began his musical career in the early 50’s while serving in the United States Air Force, stationed in Okinawa. Tillis really came to public attention in '56 when Webb Pierce recorded his song “I’m Tired”. He has since written over 1000 songs, performed by the likes of Kenny Rogers, Bobby Bare, Brenda Lee, and Ray Price. He has recorded over 60 solo albums, had thirty-six Top Ten singles and nine Number One's. Tillis is also in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and in 1976 was named the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year.
