Marvin Sapp
No one had really heard of Grand Rapids’ "JOY" outreach minister Marvin Sapp in the early 90's when he replaced Keith Staten in the gospel group Commission, but after the group fell apart in 1995, Sapp's career as a solo artist exploded. His 1996 self-titled debut featured ex-Commission collaborator Fred Hammond and some gospel favorites. After two follow-ups "Grace & Mercy" and "Nothing Else Matters", Sapp and his powerful voice took a break from recording. His comeback, "I Believe" appeared on Versity Records. Versity also put out "Diary of a Psalmist" and "Be Exhalted".
