Lou Bega
Lou Bega was born in Munich, Germany in 1975. The son of an Italian mother and an African father started rapping in a local band at age 13. When he visited Miami as an 18 year-old, he got acquainted with the music of the mambo kings of the 30's and 40's. Fascinated by the mambo, he created his own version of it. The single "Mambo No. 5", released in 1999, went double platinum in Germany and soon afterwards became an international hit. Bega's subsequent albums such as "King of Mambo" (2003) further explored his personal rendition of the mambo.
