Les Negresses Vertes were formed in Paris in 1987 by a group of friends and relatives. Most of them belonged to a big family and had no musical experience when they formed the band. They held their first concert in a street near Bastille, launching a new record shop. The leader of the band was Noel Helno Rota, who died of an overdose in 1993. Other important members were Beruriers Noirs and Zingaro. They produced their first album "Mlah" in 1989, and further records entitled "Zig-zague" (1994), "Trabendo" (1999), "Acoustic Clubbing" (2001), "Le Grand deballage" (2002) and "A l'affiche" (2006).
