Lemar Obika rose to prominence aged 24 as a contestant on 2002 BBC reality TV series Fame Academy. He came third -- one David Sneddon topped the public's poll -- but the exposure proved enough to kickstart his career. The show was the climax of several years searching for a break on the London R&B scene, in the course of which Lemar had landed a deal with BMG, only to see it turn sour after just one release. Hailing from Tottenham, the smooth-voiced soul singer reached No. 2 in the charts in August 2003 with "Dance (With U)", fresh from signing a five-album deal with Sony. To date the fruits of this includes Dedicated (2003), Time To Grow (2004) and the artist's best-performing album to date, The Truth About Love (2006).
