Kasey Chambers will tour the U.S. this fall following the September 14th release of her third album, Wayward Angel. She will begin with a November 3rd gig in San Francisco, where her tour behind 2002's Barricades and Brickwalls ended abruptly when the then-six-month-pregnant singer-songwriter passed out onstage.
While Chambers' son Talon, now two, may not have as profound of an effect on the upcoming tour, he did influence much of the new album. "I think I exposed myself more on this album than I ever have before," says Chambers, "and I think that definitely comes from having a baby. When I'm sitting down writing a song, I care less about what people are going to think when they hear it. Now I just write the song."
The new songs germinated over three years, and Chambers recorded them in two weeks in her native Australia. The relaxed atmosphere allowed the personal songs like "Paper Aeroplane" and "Pony" space to breathe.
"I enjoyed making this album, because there was a lot less pressure," she says. "We made Barricades in between tours to America and here, and it was done in lots of little bits and pieces, which I think helped to give it that slightly disjointed sound. For this album, we all had a fair bit of time off. It was good just to think wholly and solely about the album, and not about a gig next week."
