Juan Tavares
For nearly 12 years Juan Tavares was the lead singer of Liberacion, one of the few grupero acts to still be moving units after the grupero craze of the 1990s waned. Born in Jalisco, Tavares knew he wanted to be a singer by age 14; fortunately he came from a musical family who encouraged his passion, and in 1989 he joined Liberacion. The group was very successful but Tavares personally suffered several tragedies during his tenure, including the death of his father and an accident which left him in a coma for 17 days. In 2001 he left the group to pursue a solo career, striking gold with hits like "A Un Paso De Olvidarte" and "Ese Loco Soy Yo."
