Howard Tate
A soul legend, Howard Tate pulled one of R&B's biggest vanishing acts after a series of late 60's hits. In fact, his mysterious retirement made many believe he was dead. After starting with the Gainors in the early 60's, he was introduced to Verve producer Jerry Ragovoy by Garnett Mimms. Ragovoy and Tate made "Ain't Nobody Home" (1966), "Stop" (1967) and "Get It While You Can" (1967), later famously performed by Janis Joplin. Tate made "Howard Tate's Reaction" without Ragovoy in 1970, before sinking into drug abuse. Located by a DJ in 2001, he rejoined Ragovoy for 2003's "Rediscovered".
