Holger Czukay
Holger Czukay was born in 1938 in the then Polish/German town Gdansk. He pursued a career in music from an early age on, but his ideas proved too unusual for both the industry and many musicians. He was disqualified from a jazz festival for playing “unclassifiable music”, and was later expelled from Berlin’s Music Academy for similar reasons. Influenced both by Stockhausen and by the Velvet Underground, Czukay co-founded the band Inner Space in 1968; they released their debut album “Monster Movie” under the name Can in 1969. Can became one of the most influential Krautrock bands of the era.
